Life in the Mud!
Have you ever been in a mud situation, where no matter how you try to shake and clean it off, it’s still stuck on you? Mud isn’t beautiful, but sometimes we learn lessons from it. Life lessons that either strengthen or breaks us down depending on our attitude or how much we allow the situation to dictate our future.
I have been in so many muddy situations that I still wonder how I got out of most, as some of them were capable of draining me. And you know when life throws you in the mud, you don’t want to get up and keep walking because it’s not a pretty sight or appearance to present in front of other people. So what we do best is stay in the mud and hide away. But I want to introduce you to a Life Cleanser. You know how we can wash things off that fell in the mud with water, detergent or good scrubbing. However, when life throws you in mud, no natural water can clean you up. There is only One Person that can clean you, and that is Jesus Christ the Life Cleanser. He is the Water and Detergent that gets the mud off your life.
In my muddy situation, I was too ashamed and afraid to share it let alone stand up from the mud to let people see that ugly appearance. No one was going to listen to the story of how I got into the mud before judging me first, and waving me off their presence. Let’s face it no one wants to associate with mud or dirt. Growing up in Africa, when you come home all dirty and muddy most parents will discipline you first with a cane or by hand before listening to the story of how you got into that messy situation. So I’ve learnt this very well to an extent I would rather tell someone who has been in my situation, about how I fell and got myself into that mess, than someone who has never been there. And truth be told if you’ve never had the flu in cold winter, then you won’t understand the discomfort, aches and pain it causes to people who have it.
Has life ever thrown you in the mud?
We don’t have to stay in the mud paddling in it because of shame or guilt. It doesn’t matter who is starring or walking away from you. God will never walk away from you, and that is why He is calling on you and me to stand up and step out of that mud and allow Him to cleanse us because nobody can do it but Him.
Whatever the mud you are experiencing, whether uncontrollable addictions, immorality, floating in different ungodly relationships, lying, cheating, hypocrisy, anger issues, hatred, unforgiveness, fornication, adultery, jealousy and envious spirit. All these put stains on our Christian life and draw us away from God. Hiding them and battling alone is not going to help us deal with them, but taking a resolute approach by walking into God’s loving arms that have been wide open for so long waiting for you and me to just run into His arms, surrender and sincerely ask for cleansing. That is the only solution out of the mud.
We don’t have all the time in the world sitting in such mess and giving excuses why we can’t get out or why we kept on falling into them. Jesus is coming back very soon, and you and I need to decide whether we want to be on His Team or not. We cannot continue to jump in and out of His Team, because very soon before we know it the door will be shut, and we may not have the opportunity to jump back into His Team. This is not a Soccer industry where you can switch teams based on pay and better-negotiated terms; this is our life destiny. Eternity at stake! There is no other time that this is so urgent like the times we are living in today.
One of the prayers I pray with so much passion is not to miss God’s Kingdom (Heaven). For what will it profit a man to gain the whole world and lose his soul?
What are we living for my brothers and sisters? Are we living for God or our selfish ambitions? What is that muddy situation in your life that God cannot cleanse? You are not far gone to be saved. You are worth the sacrifice on the Cross of Calvary. You are worth every drop of blood He shed. All to have you back to Himself. What love is this? Only Jesus can. He has taken that shame, guilt, ugly appearance and messed-up sinful life and now offering you a pure and perfect life that only He can give. Don’t throw it back at His face! Don’t walk away from it! Don’t trample on it because one fine day, it will be too late to accept this Eternal Life and the privileged to dwell in His Court.
Don’t let life leave you in that mud until it’s too late to get up. Get up now while we still have the opportunity to breathe, because any day or anytime from now, we will all die. And then we will face The Best Judge of the universe who will require an account of how we’ve lived our lives on earth.
I leave you with this ‘For God so loved the world that He gave His Only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but that the world through Him might be saved. He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already because he has not believed in the name of the Only begotten Son of God.’ John 3:16-18.
